Happy Independence Day

Dear Friend,

Today we celebrate the birthday of this magnificent country when in 1776, we declared our independence from Great Britain and adopted our own Declaration of Independence. Many families are barbequing or camping enjoying the three-day weekend, but it is important to not forget the meaning of this Federal holiday.

Independence Day marks the beginning of a free country with liberty and justice for all. Most importantly, America was seen as the promise land- a place where every citizen would have endless opportunities to follow their dreams.

Fast-forward 234 years in the future and you will find a very different definition of freedom in America. Income is no longer an individual freedom- it is now made for the ‘greater good.’ A country that once prided itself on Capitalism, is now governed by socialistic policies created by a radically liberal government led by President Barack Obama. For every dollar made, it seems two dollars are being taken.

That is why the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association (HJTA), the leading taxpayer advocacy group in California, is a major sponsor of the Fourth Annual Western Conservative Political Action Conference (WCPAC), which will be held on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Radisson Newport Beach. Now, more than ever, it is urgent that conservatives come together and let their voices be heard: we’ve had enough. It is time to put a stop to tax-hungry legislators in Washington and California. WCPAC will bring like-minded conservative leaders together including many of the western states’ Republican primary nominees, under one roof.

HJTA is firm in standing against 36-year career politician, Jerry Brown who is running against Former e-Bay CEO Meg Whitman to become California’s Governor. Popularly known as Governor Moonbeam, Brown is sure to let hard-working Californians down if he is allowed to govern this state for a third time.

As many California voters will recall, (because it was not that long ago), Brown’s radically liberal agenda helped spur an important statewide anti-tax initiative- Proposition 13- famously known as the ‘People's Initiative to Limit Property Taxation.’ Because of Brown’s refusal to decrease the state's surplus by cutting property taxes, voters were compelled to create a law forcing him and Governors that followed, to protect homeowners.

It is because of Prop. 13 and the reality that voters face Gov. Moonbeam on their ballots again that I am particularly excited about this year’s WCPAC. This year’s conference will feature a panel on ‘The Truth of Jerry Brown’ exposing all of his past, ill-conceived policies and highlighting the need for conservatives to come together and rally behind our Republican Nominee for Governor, Meg Whitman.

Please join HJTA in becoming a sponsor today for this year’s WCPAC and help put a stop to the radical liberal agenda in Washington and here at home!

Sincerely,

Jon Coupal, President
Howard Jarvis Taxpayer’s Association
